Advertising at StumbleUpon

Advertising at StumbleUpon

I’ve done some tests running advertisement at StumbleUpon, and came to some good conclusions about it. It’s capable of bringing a lot of traffic relatively cheap, what means we can make a lot of money from it.

Cheap advertisement

Stumble works with a fix price per visit of $0.05, that can sound expensive, considering it’s possible to achieve lower CPC on other ad networks, but considering the risk of going viral, your CPC can become a lot lower than that.

Your page will be seen by user the same way the would see other pages, so there’s no sign of being an ad and will, usually, be related to the user interests, and best of all users vote for your content as a regular page, so if many people like it, your ad will be shown to many many more user that you’ve planned.

Content Targeting

You can select several restrictions to who will see your ad, based on the users profile at Stumble, you can restrict your audience for:

  • Category
  • Gender
  • Age
  • Country
  • State
  • City

Selecting a category, shows you how many thousands of subscribers each one have, this is just to give you the idea of how many people you’re targeting.

Getting the maximum from Stumble Advertisement

Although you can advertise almost anything that’s suitable to Stumble’s content guidelines, your 4 pages tall sales letter won’t perform very well, you’ll still have a visitor for every $0.05, but that’s not what we want, we want more.

Make a page that has some useful content, better if that page is made in a way it’d perform well in other social networks, and blend your ads to it (remember that the ads are submitted to the content guidelines, too). You can expect your traffic to grow a lot.

I’ve seen pages that brought more than a thousand times the targeted audience, and that alone can compensate the lower CTR a content page may have, compared to a sales page. If you create something that can achieve that scale, even if the advertised page has a CTR 20 times lower than the sales page, you’re still getting 50 times more conversions for the same cost.
